In 1998, HOWA became the first community based hospice in Alabama to attain accreditation by The Joint Commission.Hospice of West Alabama is the only agency serving West Alabama with its own free-standing inpatient facility, which has served more than 4,000 patients since it opened on November 1, 2004.The agency staff of more than 90 individuals serves hundreds of patients annually in Tuscaloosa, Pickens, Greene, Hale, Bibb, Fayette, and Lamar counties.
